Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims First Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.
Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.
This represents his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.
Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
His defensive play style and regular reactions on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
He rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.
Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
